Tools for Humanity See More Job Openings by This EmployerThis is a unique opportunity to co-architect a highly-functioning legal function at a high-profile project sitting at the interaction of several emerging fields. Working directly with the Chief Legal Officer, you will be instrumental in defining and executing our approach to the full range of product, IP and marketing legal considerations.
What you’ll do:- Member of legal leadership, helping to build and support the strategy for the legal team in collaboration with other legal leads.
- Lead and help develop our Product, IP, and Marketing Legal team.
- Partner with the Engineering, Product, and Design teams to understand and assess new products and technologies, from early development stages through launch – and provide proactive legal advice throughout the product lifecycle.
- Drive and evolve the legal-compliance-by-design process, including privacy-by-design and safety-by-design.
- Identify, analyze, and advise on evolving legal and safety risks and global regulatory requirements for new and existing products and technologies.
- Work closely with legal subject matter experts to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Build and manage our IP strategy, including prosecution, protection and enforcement.
- Support the communications and marketing teams in partnership with our Market Operations legal team
- Help scale the legal organization by developing innovative processes to support the fast-moving Engineering, Product, and Design teams.
- Help draft public-facing descriptions of new products and technologies, and manage the terms of service and privacy policy updates working with legal team members.
- Stay abreast of emerging legal trends and best practices in the tech industry, and provide thought leadership within the legal team and the company.

- Experience across a range of legal disciplines – e.g., product, privacy, consumer protection, marketing, advertising and IP.
- Very strong understanding of consumer protection, GDPR and other global privacy laws.
- Experience working directly with engineers, product managers, and senior executives on product development.
- Someone who’s excited about and comfortable with mastering new areas of law and tech, in particular cryptocurrencies.
- Excellent legal and business judgment and strategic thinking to ensure appropriate prioritization.
- Able to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the company on complex, multifaceted issues.
- Detail-oriented, business-friendly, and a team player, with an ability to think creatively and accommodate tight deadlines.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Operate as a player coach, able to get into the details and execute while supporting and building a collaborative team.
- Excellent academic credentials.
- A sense of humor.
- Minimum qualifications:
- JD degree from an accredited university.
- Active membership in at least one state bar.
- 15+ years of experience practicing law.
- 10+ years experience across product, IP, marketing, and other legal disciplines.
- Experience leading in-house product legal teams.
- Fluency in English.
- In-house counsel experience with a multinational corporation, preferably in the technology sector.
- Experience in blockchain technology and cryptocurrency a plus.
- Ability to speak German a plus.

The reasonably estimated salary for this role at TFH in San Francisco ranges from $270,000 - $280,000, plus a competitive long term incentive package, and may include variable compensation. Actual compensation is based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience.
