Job Summary
We are seeking an Associate Counsel to join our Legal Services team. This position will be responsible for providing legal support to the Investments and Asset Management departments, particularly in matters related to the company’s growing portfolio of real estate investments. Top candidates will be proactive, detail-oriented, and strategic thinkers who thrive in a collaborative setting and can effectively support commercial real estate transactions. While this role will manage key responsibilities independently, they will also work under the guidance of the SVP, Associate General Counsel to ensure alignment with legal and business objectives.
The position reports to our SVP, Associate General Counsel and is in located in Bethesda, MD. It is on-site M-Th and remote on Fridays.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist with drafting legal documents such as memoranda, letters, certificates, entity formation documents, term sheets, abstracts and others, as directed;
- Review and coordinate due diligence and legal documentation related to projects and private equity offerings;
- Manage the deal closing process;
- Prepare abstracts to summarize documentation pertaining to closed transactions;
- Support the team with ongoing investor communications and responses to investor inquiries and requests;
- Manage and track legal communications with existing investors;
- Locate, obtain, and preserve documents;
- Provide legal support to the SVP, Associate General Consuel across all legal functions;
- Other responsibilities and tasks as requested.
Qualifications, Education, and Experience Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) required; admission to a U.S. state bar in good standing;
- Minimum 4 years of legal experience, with experience in a law firm or in-house setting, with a strong background in commercial real estate required;
- Experience with operating agreements, loan documents, and transactional structuring preferred;
- Exceptional attention to detail and natural affinity for detail-oriented work;
- Ability to proofread for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and basic formatting with a high level of accuracy;
- Ability to quickly analyze legal agreements and extract relevant provisions;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including grammar, spelling and punctuation;
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities;
- Proven ability to establish strong working relationships with others in a team setting;
- Tech savvy and proficient with Google Apps, Adobe, and Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
