Job Description

Description

CoinList is where the world’s best crypto projects build their communities and early adopters invest in and trade top-tier digital assets. Our mission is to accelerate the advancement of blockchain technology by finding the best emerging blockchain projects and helping them succeed. CoinList is the global leader in new token issuance, helping blue chip projects such as Solana, Filecoin, Celo, Dapper Labs, and others raise over $1 billion and connect them with hundreds of thousands of new token holders. We support the full lifecycle of crypto investment, from token sales through token distribution, trading, and crypto-specific services such as staking and access to decentralized-finance opportunities. CoinList users trade and store Bitcoin, Ether, and several other popular crypto assets through CoinList.co, CoinList Pro (our full-service exchange), and mobile apps, while also receiving exclusive access to the best new tokens before they list on other exchanges.

Unlike other centralized crypto finance platforms, we're not here to just build a bank or a brokerage. We're building the platform for people who are passionate about moving crypto forward, and we’re just getting started. Come join us and propel the future of crypto!

Why we are hiring for this:

In light of the uncertainty under the US regulatory regime, we should diversify our expansion efforts with innovative products attractive to our international users.  We need a leader that is able to work with the business to operationalize new product ideas in a compliant manner offshore.

Core Focus:

  • You’ll drive our international legal initiatives. CoinList is growing quickly, and you will be the go-to person for our international endeavors.  You will be charged with standing up new financial and trading product offerings for CoinList in a compliant way.  You will drive regulatory filings, negotiate contracts, and advise business leaders on complex legal issues. Whatever needs to get done, you will be the person pushing this part of the business forward.
  • You will creatively problem solve. From figuring out how to structure a new type of product, to brainstorming on a complex corporate issue, you will need to think creatively to navigate the changing waters of the crypto ecosystem. Each day you’ll expand your knowledge and solve problems that no one has had to grapple with before.
  • You’re strategic, seeing ahead of the curve. Leveraging your legal and business experience, you’ll identify business opportunities and create roadmaps to make these opportunities into a working product.  If you don’t already have a plan in place for a business initiative, you know the steps you’ll take to put one in place.
  • You’ll represent us externally. From publishing thought leadership pieces on international regulations, to moderating legal panels at crypto conferences, to meeting with members of congress to advise them on legislation, you’ll help shape the course of this emerging industry.
  • You’ll create the future. Crypto is a far bigger deal than most people realize, and at CoinList you will be at the forefront of it. There are all sorts of technical challenges you’ll be working through and new questions you’ll have to answer, in partnership with founders for the leading crypto projects across the globe. If you’re successful, you’ll build something the world has never before seen.

Who you are:

  • You’re excited about cryptocurrency and understand the basics. CoinList’s mission is to help the best crypto companies and their communities succeed. We’re incredibly excited by the power of distributed ledger technology, and you should be too.
  • You’re able to navigate complex legal requirements in the US and abroad. You have 6+ years of relevant legal experience in applying financial laws and regulations, whether at a top law firm, in house or at a regulator or self-regulatory organization.  You have an understanding of the hurdles in offering crypto assets in the US and a demonstrated ability in managing international legal initiatives.
  • You have a background in business development. You have first-hand knowledge of what it’s like to start a business or offer a product from scratch and also the challenges in making a deal happen.  After all, you’ve done it yourself.
  • You advance business ideas even in uncertainty. Rather than hedge on tough issues, you have an opinion. In a space that is still being defined, you are able to find creative paths forward, balancing practical conservatism with a creative approach to problem solving.
  • You are self-sufficient. You thrive when you are able to work independently to get to the right result quickly. Your good judgment allows you to report on the progress that you’ve made rather than wait to be told what to do.
  • You pitch in, no matter the task.  CoinList is a small and nimble team of professionals.  We all work together to create success.  You love that you can contribute to the whole, and no task is too small for you to own.

Requirements
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree or equivalent from an accredited law school
  • 3+ years of relevant experience at a top law firm or in-house.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. and international laws and regulations related to cryptocurrencies, blockchain technology, and financial services, with a focus on trading and brokerage activities.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively under pressure.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with regulatory compliance in the financial services industry, particularly related to prime brokerage and trading.
  • Knowledge of smart contracts, decentralized finance (DeFi), and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
  • Previous in-house legal experience or experience working with startups.
  • Admission to practice law in the United States.
