
Our Firm is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Legal Assistant to join our New Orleans team. This is a non-billable position that will support four attorneys with administrative and litigation-related tasks to ensure smooth case management and efficient workflow. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and prior experience in litigation support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Keep cases organized by providing in-office support to attorneys, establishing and organizing files; monitoring calendars; meeting deadlines; documenting actions; inputting information into file database and case management software;
- Manage the opening and closing of client files;
- Help develop cases by maintaining contact with people involved in the case and generating status reports, as necessary;
- Support case preparation by organizing materials for team case review;
- Responsible for entering billable time entries and making travel arrangements for attorneys;
- Edit, format, print and revise all letters, memos, reports, forms, labels and other printed material;
- Answer phone calls, take notes, messages and redirect calls when appropriate;
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities;
- Flexible and adaptable in various situations and when interacting with many different personalities;
- Accomplish organization goals by accepting ownership of new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job tasks;
- Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned;
- 3+ years of experience as a legal assistant, preferably in defense litigation
- Experience supporting multiple attorneys in a fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with asbestos or toxic tort litigation a plus
- Strong knowledge of legal terminology, court rules, and filing procedures
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and document management systems
- Excellent organizational, multitasking, and time-management skills
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
