Job Description

Job Summary

This position performs clerical and customer service functions in support of office operations.

Major Duties

  • Provides customer service; answers telephone and greet visitors; provides information and assistance; refers to appropriate personnel; takes messages and makes appointments.
  • Enters traffic and commercial vehicle citations; assesses charges.
  • Schedules appointments with commercial vehicle companies for vehicle inspections.
  • Prepares failure to appear notices.
  • Processes license suspensions.
  • Prepares a variety of reports.
  • Collects civil court filing fees, fines and other payments; processes cash, check, credit card, mail and online payments; refers to Tax Assessor’s Office for payment arrangements.
  • Prepares monthly revenue reports.
  • Issues affidavits for arrest warrants.
  • Cancels tickets, dispositions, and warrants.
  • Sends notices of court dates.
  • Assists in court as needed.
  • Maintains files and records.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of county and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
  • Skill in the use of such office equipment as a scanner, fax machine, and copier.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of one ( 1 ) year of clerical work experience.

Supplemental Information

Complexity/Scope of Work

  • The work consists of related clerical and customer service duties. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the work.
  • The purpose of this position is to receive and processes payments and court documents. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of office operations.

Physical Demands/Work Environment
Occasionally
  • Working in low temperatures.
  • Working in high temperatures.
  • Light work that includes carrying objects up to 20 pounds.

Constantly
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Repeating motions that may include the use of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Operating machinery and/or power tools.
  • Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.

Other Requirements/Information
  • Must possess a valid and current Texas driver's license.
  • Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this job. Pre-employment drug/alcohol testing, Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and criminal background checks are required.
  • This position is covered by Civil Service; therefore, is subject to the Civil Service Rules and Regulations in addition to all other Webb County policies.

Valid Texas Driver’s License*
*If the applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver’s License must be obtained prior to employment. 

Salary
  • $13.73 - $14.43/hour
