Paralegal Job Requirements
Education & Certification
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or related field.
- Paralegal certification from an accredited program (preferred but not always required).
Experience
- Prior experience in a law firm or legal department (1–3 years for entry-level; 3–5+ years for senior/paralegal specialist roles).
- Familiarity with specific practice areas (e.g., family law, probate, litigation, real estate, corporate law).
Skills
- Strong knowledge of legal terminology, court procedures, and filing requirements.
- Proficient in legal research using LexisNexis, Westlaw, or similar platforms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Skilled in drafting and proofreading legal documents, pleadings, and correspondence.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities; able to manage multiple cases and deadlines.
- Proficient with case management software and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with attorneys and support staff.
