We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Litigation Paralegal to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will support our attorneys in a wide range of matters, including all phases of litigation, from initial case assessment through trial and appeal. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys in all phases of litigation, including case management, discovery, motion practice, trial preparation, and appeals.  We practice in State and federal court, in administrative proceedings, and City boards and commissions
  • Draft legal documents, such as pleadings, motions, subpoenas, discovery, and prepare templates for briefs, captions, certificates of service
  • Organize and maintain case files, both electronically and in hard copy, ensuring all documents are filed correctly and deadlines are met
  • Coordinate with clients, witnesses, and experts to gather necessary information and evidence.
  • Schedule and maintain litigation calendars and track deadlines, monitor and provide notification of court and other deadlines, as well as appointments and meetings
  • Prepare and manage trial exhibits and other presentation materials
  • Support attorneys with hearings, depositions, mediations, and during trial, including managing exhibits and coordinating with court personnel
  • Receive and respond to inquiries from internal department staff, outside counsel, citizens, developers, surveyors, appraisers and/or other stakeholders
  • Perform legal research and cite-checking under attorney supervision
  • Provide general administrative support to assigned attorneys

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience:
Associate's Degree in paralegal studies and one year of paralegal, legal assistant or legal secretarial experience

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience as a litigation paralegal in a law firm or corporate legal department
  • Strong understanding of legal terminology, civil ligation procedures and documentation

Additional Information

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving
  • Work independently and as part of a team
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint) and with Adobe Acrobat
  • Learn the use of Westlaw and case management software in use with the Courts and with the City Attorney’s Office

ADA and Other Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require: standing, walking, fingering, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Light Work:
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work, and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light work.

Working Conditions:
Work is routinely performed in an indoor, office environment.
