Job Description

CLASSIFICATION PURPOSE

The purpose of the Legal Specialist is to assist the attorney with all legal matters.

JOB DUTIES

Maintain and monitor court dockets; schedule court hearings, prepare case files and payment histories for upcoming court hearings. Log, scan and review all legal documents filed in court and forward to the appropriate party for action. 15%

Receives requests for administrative reviews of child support; determines if the review is appropriate, obtains needed documentation; completes administrative reviews following Supreme Court guidelines and administrative rules, prepares recommendations, maintains timeframes. 35%

Reviews Financial institution Data Match (FIDM) reports, identifies cases suitable for seizure of bank account, notifies financial institutions, follows seizure status, and responds to inquiries from banks, attorneys, and clients. Maintain felony non-support cases; prepares statement of facts, case payment history, and case audit.  Reviews and processes unclaimed funds, lump sums and Child Support Lein Network (CSLN). 30%

Prepare and process legal documents; e.g., pleadings, motions, entries, memoranda, briefs, and court orders, file documents with correct parties, courts; responds to telephone requests for information, follow up on progress. Assists attorneys with phone calls, scheduling appointments, pulling and preparing files; provides general clerical support; prepares letters and correspondence. 20%

MAJOR WORKER CHARACTERISTICS

Knowledge of office practices and procedures, legal documentation and CSEA practices and procedures, English grammar and composition.

Skill in organization, oral and written communication, typing, and word processing.

Ability to complete legal documents, answer questions/inquiries regarding legal policies and procedures, ensure compliance with legal guidelines, and gather, collate, and summarize data.

MINIMUM CLASS QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT

High School Diploma or GED
Some experience in legal matters preferred

HOURSMonday – Friday, 8a – 5p (Hours may vary due to the needs of the agency outside of normal working hours)
