Position Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced General Counsel to join Metrea, playing a pivotal role in shaping the company’s legal landscape and managing a global team. The successful candidate will lead teams specializing in global trade, customs, contracts, and regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions, supporting Metrea's acquisition-driven growth strategy and emerging organic growth opportunities.
As an early adopter of change, the ideal candidate will excel in navigating the complexities of scaling organizations while ensuring the highest standards of legal compliance. This role will require a proactive approach to fostering innovation while mitigating risks. You will play a key role in enabling the business to grow, while maintaining impeccable legal standards and regulatory compliance, especially in the defense sector, including International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR) compliance.
Role & Responsibilities
- Lead a team covering all aspects of Metrea’s legal functions, including contracts, trade compliance, customs, and general counsel requirements on a global scale.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the executive team, offering strategic legal guidance to drive business growth while managing regulatory risks.
- Ensure compliance with U.S. Government regulations, with a particular focus on defense-related contracts and regulations (ITAR, EAR).
- Work closely with internal and external legal counsel to navigate complex regulatory environments, ensuring Metrea's operations comply with international defense and trade laws.
- Develop and oversee company policies regarding legal and regulatory compliance to protect the organization’s legal standing and reputation.
- Lead contract negotiations, including proposals for U.S. Government requirements such as FFP, CPFF, CPIF, T&M, BOAs, IDIQ contracts, and OTA Agreements.
- Anticipate legal challenges in the business landscape and offer innovative and legally sound solutions.
- Be a champion of change, promoting and adopting innovative legal practices and processes to support Metrea’s growth initiatives.
Skills and Experience
- Extensive legal experience in both large, complex organizations and smaller, fast-growing companies, preferably with experience in startups or companies in a rapid scaling phase.
- Expertise in managing and negotiating government contracts, including experience with U.S. defense contracts and a deep understanding of ITAR and EAR regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to act as a business enabler while upholding the highest standards of compliance and legal best practices.
- Strong leadership skills, with experience managing and developing diverse legal and compliance teams.
- Creative problem-solving abilities and the ability to provide practical, commercially minded solutions to complex legal challenges.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex legal matters to a wide range of stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.
