Description of Job

Job Summary:

Are you passionate about public service and higher education? This role offers the chance to work across a variety of legal areas as an assistant general counsel on the state’s most populous campus. 

 

We are seeking someone who:

Essential Job Functions:
  • Assist General Counsel with day-to-day provision of legal services to the Auraria Campus, the State of Colorado’s largest college campus by population.
  • Prepare Auraria Campus policies and oversee maintenance of the policy library.
  • Track, prepare, and review contracts for the Auraria Campus.
  • Perform legal research regarding all legal issues impacting the Auraria Campus.
  • Review, comment on, and provide recommendations concerning pending legislation.
  • Provide legal advice to campus stakeholders and participate in campus meetings.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Professional Requirements:
  • Applicants must be licensed to practice law in Colorado. 
  • Minimum of three years of experience as a practicing attorney.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Skilled in communication orally, in writing, and in legal analysis. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and client relationship skills.

  • Demonstrates maturity and judgment when dealing with internal and external stakeholders and knows when to consult teammates and supervisors.
  • Excels at learning new areas of law and takes initiative to learn quickly and dive into subject matter.
Conditions of Employment:
  • The final candidate for employment must successfully pass a thorough criminal background investigation/check and must be eligible for a Special Assistant Attorney General designation.
