Summary

Corporate Counsel is responsible for providing management with legal expertise as it applies to construction and real estate law, claims analysis, dispute resolution, and risk mitigation.  Helps formulate and manage legal strategy.  

Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direction of Vice President and General Counsel

•    Assist project teams with claim analysis, dispute resolution, and risk mitigation.  Meets with teams to understand the facts.  Reviews relevant contracts, correspondence and project documents.  Ensures that the overall strategy is founded on the legal framework that governs the issue.  
•    Manages Outside Counsel.  Assists in setting strategy and assures that it is being followed and sound decisions are being made.  Attends all meetings, participates in all conference calls, interfaces with all consultants, and generally helps to direct the strategy.  
•    Reviews contracts that require a high level of analysis. Reviews particular provisions of concern, negotiating with owners and their lawyers on an as needed basis.   
•    Manages Insurance Risk Mitigation Resources. Ensures that Layton’s insurance risk mitigation resources are appropriately accessed and managed to be available to cover losses when needed.  
•    Assist with Miscellaneous Legal Issues. Applies considerable expertise to handle necessary but non-routine issues as they emerge and are assigned.    
•    Performs other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications     

•    JD in law from accredited law school.
•    Background in construction and real estate law.
•    Passed a state Bar exam.
•    At least 10 years of practice since graduation from law school, and preferably 5 to 10 years of experience with construction related legal work.
•    Performs essential duties and responsibilities efficiently, accurately, and safely with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing threat of harm to self or others.

This is an on-site position based in Sandy, Utah — remote work is not available. Candidates must be local or willing to relocate.
