Job Description

Summary

Serves as the chief municipal prosecutor in the City of Lubbock Municipal Court and supervises the Municipal Prosecutor’s Office as part of the City Attorney’s Office. 

Essential Functions

  • Be assigned as a Municipal Court Prosecutor to present cases before Municipal Court;
  • Assist other city attorneys in preparation of trial briefs and pleadings;
  • Research various city codes to facilitate code enforcement by various City departments;
  • Prosecute city ordinances and Texas Penal Code Class "C" misdemeanors;
  • Preparing, researching, arguing, filing and responding to motions;
  • Representing various city departments in scheduled mediations;
  • Select, train, supervise, assign areas of responsibility and evaluate personnel directly or through subordinate personnel that are assigned to the Municipal Prosecutor’s Office; 
  • City staff assigned to the Municipal Prosecutor’s Office;
  • Report directly to the City Attorney;
  • Perform related duties as directed.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited law school with a J.D. degree and licensed to practice before all courts of the State of Texas with an additional five years of responsible experience in the practice of law in the State of Texas with at least three years of criminal litigation.  

Valid Current Driver's License
Licensed to Practice Law in the State of Texas

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Legal research methods, legal practices and procedures.
Ability/Skills to:
  • Prepare cases for prosecution in Municipal Court;
  • Engage in detailed legal research and writing, including computer aided electronic research;
  • Litigate and prosecute on behalf of the city;
  • Communicate effectively with others.
Physical Requirements:
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 10 pounds;
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds;
  • Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees;
  • Place arms above, at, and below should height.

Salary
  • $96,532.80/year
