Job description:

We are seeking an experienced Patent Prosecution Paralegal to join our dynamic IP team at Azurity. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in US and ex-US patent law and a deep understanding of the patent prosecution process. They will play a crucial role in maintaining our IP docketing system. The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. You must also have a thorough understanding of the USPTO rules and procedures, as well as experience with patent docketing systems. This position is based in Raleigh, NC, and offers a hybrid work schedule with in-office days on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patent and Trademark Portfolio Management (US and ex-US):
    • Organize and maintain the company's patent and trademark portfolio.
    • Ensure accurate and up-to-date records of all patent and trademark filings, statuses, and deadlines.
    • Assist in the preparation and filing of patent and trademark applications, responses, and other related documents.
    • Handle instructing the payment of patent annuities worldwide.
    • Coordinate across departments to obtain product specimens for trademark applications.
  • Patent Docketing System Management:
    • Manage and oversee the patent docketing system to ensure timely and accurate tracking of all patent-related deadlines.
    • Monitor and update docket entries, ensuring compliance with all relevant deadlines and requirements.
    • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure all necessary documentation is filed and deadlines are met.
  • IP Support:
    • Provide support to IP team members in all aspects of US and ex-US patent prosecution.
    • Conduct research and gather relevant information to support patent filings and responses.
    • Assist in the preparation of legal documents, including patent applications, amendments, and office action responses.
    • Obtain signatures on patent-related documents from relevant parties.
  • Communication and Coordination:
    • Liaise with inventors, outside counsel, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information and ensure smooth communication.
    • Coordinate with various departments within the company to obtain necessary approvals and information for patent filings.

Prerequisites:

  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience as a patent prosecution paralegal, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry.
    • Proven experience managing patent and trademark portfolios and patent docketing systems, preference for experience with CPI docketing system.
    • Familiarity with M&A and licensing a plus.
  • Skills:
    • Thorough understanding of USPTO rules and procedures.
    • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Proficiency in patent docketing software and Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree is preferred; equivalent experience accepted.
    • Paralegal certification is preferred.
