General Summary

Under limited supervision, serve as legal counsel representing Oakland County in civil matters. Provide legal guidance to County administrators and elected officials. Responsibilities to  include:   reviewing legal documents, conducting legal research, writing and drafting memorandums to county administrators and elected officials, reviewing and negotiating complex contracts with third parties, reviewing and drafting documents for real estate transactions (leases, easements, purchase agreements, and licenses), reviewing contracts for the sale of goods and professional services, reviewing and drafting intergovernmental agreements, reviewing and advising on grant agreements and compliance with grant program requirements. Utilize countywide and department-specific software to manage assignments. You may also represent the County in certain civil litigation cases.

Required Minimum Qualifications

At the time of application, applicants must:

 

1. Possess a Bachelor of Law or a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited college of law.
 
2. Have at least six (6) years of full-time work experience in the practice of law. Experience in the following practice areas is desirable: real estate transactions; Governmental Tort Liability Act and tort defense; 42 U.S.C. §1983 litigation; criminal defense or prosecution; auto negligence defense; local government taxation, workers’ compensation; employment law; contracts; commercial leases; insurance law; civil trial and appellate experience; and municipal law related to government duties, responsibilities, immunities, and privileges.
 
3. Be a member in good standing of the State Bar of Michigan.

1. Must remain in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan.

Pay Range
USD $104,313.00 - USD $139,759.00 /Yr.
