About the Role
Ben Hall Law is rapidly growing law firm seeking an attorney to join our experienced abuse and neglect practice. This attorney will provide legal representation in juvenile court proceedings, handle complex litigation, and work closely with department clients and other professionals to protect the best interests of children and families.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent the department in child abuse and neglect cases, including initial hearings, review hearings, trials, and appeals.
- Prepare and draft legal arguments and pleadings in juvenile court proceedings.
- Advise department clients on legal issues.
- Work with department staff, including caseworkers and investigators, to develop and implement case strategies.
- Negotiate settlements and participate in mediation and other alternative dispute resolution processes.
- Conduct thorough legal research and stay updated on relevant laws and precedents affecting child welfare.
- Work effectively with parents, guardians, and other attorneys involved in cases.
- Demonstrate the ability and willingness to work under time-sensitive deadlines and be productive in fast-paced environments with multiple competing priorities.
- Engage in non-litigation advocacy such as public speaking and education, working with community organizations, and meeting with public officials.
- Maintaining an up to date understanding of our practice areas and the applicable laws, rules, procedures, policies, and practices related to our areas of practice.
- Assist in training and instructing new employees, interns, and law clerks in the performance of job duties and may, on occasion, lead service training with employees, interns, and law clerks within the office.
- Education: Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Bar Admission: Licensed to practice law in Michigan, or eligible for licensure in Michigan before start date.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years experience representing clients in juvenile court.
- Demonstrated experience in handling multiple abuse and neglect cases.
- Deep understanding of juvenile court proceedings, court rules, and evidentiary standards.
- Skills:
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
- Strong negotiation and analytical abilities.
- Commitment to client advocacy and ethical practice.
- Experience with abuse and neglect cases.
- Established relationships with local legal and judicial communities in Michigan.
- Fluency in a foreign language.
