Job Description:

The Judicial Branch is a state-funded Branch of Government that offers medical/dental/vision, $20,000 free basic life insurance, state-matched 156% retirement plan, 13 paid holidays, earned paid vacation and sick leave, and more.

This classification level is responsible for reviewing and investigating grievances submitted for attorney violation of the Rules of Professional Conduct. Responsibilities may include performing initial review of grievances and investigating by gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses and the attorney; determining whether there is a sufficient factual basis to prosecute the attorney for unethical conduct; preparing trial strategy and arguments to present in court based on the decision to prosecute attorney for ethics violation; preparing all documents, briefs, and witnesses for trial; conducting disciplinary hearings; presenting at legal education seminars and providing guidance to lawyers on ethics violation; and answering questions from the public regarding issues with attorney violations and filing complaints.


 

JOB DUTIES

  • Evaluates and reviews attorney violation grievances. This includes performing dismissing or investigating if warranted to determine facts for prosecuting attorney for unethical conduct.

  • Performs initial analysis and processing stages of such grievance, including preparing trial strategy and arguments for court, briefs for trial referee, witnesses for trial, conducting disciplinary hearings, and related court documents.

  • Presents at legal education seminars and provide guidance to lawyers on ethics violation to ensure compliance with rules of professional conduct.

  • Responds to communications from complainants, respondents, witnesses, and the public while maintaining confidentiality.

  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Juris Doctorate degree and 3 years prosecutorial and appellate experience.

Licensing Requirements: Incumbents in this class typically require:

  • Admission to State Bar Association.

All educational credits must be granted from an accredited institution approved by the U.S. Dept. of Education.

  • Applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations;

  • Legal research, analysis and writing practices;

  • Courtroom procedures, practices and regulations for legal proceedings;

  • Knowledge of Justice System, trial and appellate procedure;

  • Legal document preparation techniques;

  • Computers and applicable software applications.

Skill

  • Conducting legal research;

  • Legal reasoning for analyzing, appraising, and organizing facts;

  • Maintaining records and files;

  • Preparing legal documents;

  • Operating computers and applicable software applications;

  • Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Physical Requirements: Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
