Job Description

COMPANY OVERVIEW:
United Automobile Insurance Company (UAIC) was founded in 1989 and is headquartered in Miami Gardens, Florida. The company currently operates in multiple states and is structured to provide a high quality and low-cost automobile insurance product. UAIC is family owned and is one of the largest privately held property and casualty insurance companies in the United States.

SCOPE:
UAIC is currently looking for a Litigation Paralegal. The ideal candidate will support in-house counsel and perform a range of substantive case, matter or entity related duties. This candidate will prepare drafts of legal and other documents and correspondence for attorney review. Must have personal injury experience.

This position offers a hybrid work schedule, working one day each week in the Dallas office.

 

DUTIES:
  • Draft legal documents for review and use by attorneys such as simple pleadings, discovery requests and responses, affidavits, and other routine legal documents.  
  • Prepare summaries of deposition transcripts and medical chronologies.
  • Coordinate information between counsel and claims department.
  • Organize all necessary documents for witness interviews, depositions, hearings, and trials.
  • Subpoena records.
  • Maintains attorney calendar as well as maintains diary and tickler dates appropriately.
  • Reviews calendar daily and proactively handle upcoming events and determine dates upon which various pleadings must be served and filed.
  • Inputs and maintains information into case management system and ensure data integrity.
  • Assist attorney in trial as needed.

SKILLS:
  • Insurance-related and/or personal injury experience with basic knowledge of medical terminology is required.
  • Advanced grammar and writing skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail required to handle a large caseload.
  • Responsibilities will include assisting attorneys in your home and in the office.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • 1 year of paralegal experience for individuals with a bachelor’s degree and/or paralegal certificate. Individuals without a degree or certification require five years’ legal support experience in the specific practice area.

EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Paralegal certification from an ABA-Certified program preferred
