About the Role

Law360's D.C.-area court reporter is responsible for covering developments in corporate legal proceedings and other cases of interest in the D.C. Circuit, Federal Circuit, U.S. district courts of D.C., Virginia and Maryland and well as the District of Columbia's local courts. Duties include covering assigned hearings in the various courts, reporting on legal filings in those courts and covering other news of interest regarding the courts' operations, including the the judges who work there and the lawyers and parties with matters before the courts. The D.C. courts reporter also will assist in the preparation of a weekly calendar of upcoming court hearings of interest.

Periodic travel between courthouses is expected. Court Reporters are required to arrange transportation for field travel and/or use their own personal vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Keeping track of cases in the assigned courts

  • Attending selected events

  • Communicating with editors

  • Filing daily news stories


Requirements

  • Possess at least one year of full-time, paid reporting experience and some court reporting or similar experience

  • Demonstrate solid reporting, writing and analytical skills

  • Experience writing under deadline pressure

  • Experience reporting for a legal audience is highly valued

  • Have the ability to travel based on business needs. Must be flexible to cover court hearings and developments that happen outside of standard business hours.

Salary: $77,000/annually

The salary range provided in this posting is the base salary range for Washington DC:$19,400.00 - $32,300.00
