Description

The Legal Counsel, Construction & Infrastructure at Signature Aviation will serve as a key legal advisor for large-scale capital projects across our global network. This includes greenfield developments, new construction, major facility renovations, and infrastructure expansions. This individual will play a critical role in mitigating risk, ensuring legal compliance, managing external counsel, and supporting project execution from planning through post-construction.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal counsel on the full lifecycle of construction and infrastructure projects, including site acquisition, zoning and permitting, contract negotiation, and project closeout.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of agreements, including design-build, construction management, professional services, vendor/supplier contracts, and related consulting agreements.
  • Identify and address potential legal risks in design, construction, financing, and operational phases. Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with regulatory and contractual obligations.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Real Estate, Construction, Operations, Finance, and Environmental teams to align legal support with business objectives.
  • Oversee and manage outside counsel engaged for complex construction litigation, permitting, or regulatory matters, ensuring alignment with budget and business goals.
  • Advise on and support the resolution of disputes related to construction delays, defects, change orders, or payment issues, including managing mediation, arbitration, or litigation as needed.
  • Stay current on construction law developments, industry best practices, and environmental regulations impacting infrastructure projects. Help implement internal policies and procedures accordingly.
  • Support legal due diligence for potential acquisitions or site development opportunities involving construction considerations.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and/or Experience:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction required.

  • Minimum of 4-7 years of legal experience with a strong background in construction law, infrastructure projects, and real estate development.

  • Prior experience in aviation, transportation, commercial real estate, or similar highly regulated industries is strongly preferred, but not required.

Additional knowledge and skills:

  • Deep understanding of construction-related legal concepts (e.g., AIA, FIDIC, lien law, indemnification, delay damages, etc.)
  • Strong negotiation, drafting, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple high-value projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and business acumen.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated sound judgment and strategic thinking.
  • This role may require periodic domestic and international travel to job sites, external meetings, or industry conferences (approximately 10–20%).
