Job Description

Stoel Rives LLP has an immediate opening for a Paralegal in Real Estate and Corporate Transactions located in any of our offices.  The Paralegal assists attorneys in delivery of transactional legal services to the firm’s clients with sophisticated real estate transactional needs, particularly in renewable energy projects, purchases and sales, leasing and financing transactions.  The Paralegal in many instances, may work directly with clients. Responsibilities for client work are directed by an attorney.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Information & Research

Extensive knowledge of real estate transactions including review of title reports, commitments, exceptions to title, title insurance policies and endorsements, plats and surveys (sometimes for compliance with ALTA/NSPS requirements).  Order and review title reports or commitments and analyze vesting, legal descriptions, and exceptions to title to determine impact on subject property and identify and execute on curative solutions.

Review and prepare general correspondence, deeds, basic loan documents, easements, escrow instructions and settlement statement. Review purchase and sale contracts and other real estate documents.  Assist with recording documents with county recorders in various states.

Basic knowledge of partnerships, LLCs and corporations in one or more of the states in which we practice. Review and order good standings, certified organizational documents, litigation and UCC searches and recorded documents.  File related certificates, file partnership, LLC and corporate documents, obtain federal and state tax IDs and clearances. Work with government agencies. Docket important dates and maintain files; organize closing documents; manage transactions; coordinate real estate and finance closings.

Client Services

Assist the attorneys to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, title insurance companies, closing agents, government agencies, opposing parties and counsel, and other outside vendors.

Administrative Duties

Entering billable time on a daily basis. 

Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES

Must possess the following capabilities: ability to work with attorneys and assist with projects and relationships; ability to analyze and solve problems within in a team and present to attorney; good common sense; ability to consistently produce detailed and accurate work; technical knowledge in the area of practice, statutes and regulations; desire to learn and improve; positive attitude toward clients, co- workers and transaction participants; strong client service orientation; enjoyment of working in teams and collaborating; adaptability; and ability to assist attorneys manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Technical Knowledge

Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software in a Windows-based environment. Skills with mapping software would be a plus.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

High school degree or equivalent required; college degree preferred; Paralegal Certificate a definite plus. Must have at least 3-5 years’ relevant experience.


NORMAL WORK HOURS

This is a hybrid position, is non-exempt, and eligible for overtime compensation.  Regular office hours are 8:30 - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.  The ability to work longer hours may be required during peak workload periods.

The pay range for this position is $55,000 - $121,000; however, the base compensation presented to a candidate may vary based on skills and overall experience. This salary range is based on market location.
