Job Description

Job Summary

This position is responsible for managing Webb County’s bond forfeiture caseload and creating/processing related legal documents. 

Major Duties

  • Works under the direction and supervision of the Civil Division Chief.
  • Works autonomously in managing pending bond forfeiture cases.
  • Keeps track of failures to appear in criminal cases.
  • Gathers case and bond information for use in drafting judgments nisi (the document that initiates a bond forfeiture).
  • Processes documents served by sureties and annotates the corresponding criminal case file.
  • Helps manage and organize the bond forfeiture case docket.
  • Recordkeeping.
  • Attends the monthly Bail Bond Board meetings.
  • Assists the Civil Division Chief with Bail Bond Board-related responsibilities.
  • Communicates with sureties and the Bail Bond Board.
  • Performs legal assistant duties for bail bond-related crimes.
  • Participates in external training activities.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
  • Skill in the preparation of clear and precise administrative reports.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of court terminology, policies, and procedures.
  • Must be proficient in the use of computers and Microsoft Software.
  • Must have experience in the use of office equipment.
  • Prior experience or familiarity with bail bonding is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related field from an accredited college or university and at least one (1) year of related work experience or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills for this position.

Complexity/Scope of Work

  • The work consists of varied duties in the coordination in conjunction with courts and other county offices.  
  • The purpose of this position is to manage and organize the bond forfeiture case docket. Success in this position contributes efficient and effective provision of those cases.

Physical Demands/Work Environment
Occasionally
  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Light work that includes carrying objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Medium work that includes carrying objects up to 50 pounds.
Constantly
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Adjusting or moving objects up to 50 pounds in all directions.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.

Other Requirements
  • Must possess a valid and current driver's license.
  • Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this job. Pre-employment drug/alcohol testing, Motor Vehicle Record (MVR), and criminal background checks are required.
  • This position is not covered under Civil Service; however, all other Webb County policies apply.

Salary
  • $22.50 - $24.85/hour
