The Victim Assistance Coordinator - Legal Assistant We're Looking For:
- High school diploma or equivalency
- Specialized training in victim assistance program management and operations
- 2+ years of experience in a victim advocate setting or related human services area (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Valid driver's license
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Commitment to appropriately maintain confidential materials and information
- Knowledge of crisis intervention theory and techniques, sexual abuse/physical abuse principles, child and adult protection services, social service systems (legal, court, medical, and referral sources)
- Knowledge of the State of Utah laws/regulations regarding victims' rights and procedures of the criminal justice system
- Some knowledge of legal proceedings and legal terminology
- Ability to use a computer, operate office equipment, and various software applications
- Ability and knowledge on how to act appropriately within the position boundaries and boundaries set by victim rights laws and victim advocate ethics
- Ability to respond and refer quickly, appropriately, and effectively in crisis situations
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to obtain a certification in Rape Crisis and Domestic Violence
- Ability to complete Utah Victim Assistance Academy training
The Work You'll Do:
As our Victim Assistance Coordinator - Legal Assistant, you'll provide vital support to victims of violent crimes while coordinating our victim services program. Your responsibilities will include preparing and managing case files, performing clerical tasks, drafting legal documents, and acting as a liaison between victims and justice system partners. You'll provide crisis intervention, assess safety needs, support victims through legal processes, and maintain a 24-hour crisis line. Additionally, you'll oversee volunteer advocates, deliver community presentations, and connect victims with critical resources such as housing, counseling, and legal aid, all while ensuring their rights are upheld throughout the criminal justice process.
