WHAT'S YOUR DAY LIKE?
As our Legal Assistant - Victim Assistance Coordinator, you organize and prepare essential case files, managing evidence, pleadings, and other documents while efficiently handling clerical tasks. You coordinate crisis intervention and support for victims of violent crimes on-scene, connecting them with law enforcement and court personnel to ensure effective communication in the pursuit of justice. Additionally, you engage with the community by developing presentations and recruiting volunteers for the victim advocate program. You assess victim needs, create safety plans, and refer them to vital resources such as financial aid, housing, and mental health services. Your role includes liaising with agencies to report investigations of child and elder abuse and assisting victims through the legal system. You collaborate with prosecutors on case preparation, attend court hearings, monitor case statuses, and provide testimony as needed. Moreover, you contribute to grant reporting and help train law enforcement on victim issues while supervising volunteer advocates.

WHAT'S NEEDED FROM LEGAL ASSISTANT - VICTIM ASSISTANCE COORDINATOR?
We're looking for someone who can work 35 hours per week, typical office hours with occasional call outs, while meeting the following qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalency
- Specialized training in victim assistance program management and operations
- 2+ years of experience in a victim advocate setting or related human services area (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Valid driver's license
- Knowledge of crisis intervention theory and techniques, sexual abuse/physical abuse principles, child and adult protection services, social service systems (legal, court, medical, and referral sources)
- Knowledge of the State of Utah laws/regulations regarding victims' rights and procedures of the criminal justice system
- Some knowledge of legal proceedings and legal terminology
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Commitment to appropriately maintain confidential materials and information
- Ability and knowledge on how to act appropriately within the position boundaries and boundaries set by victim rights laws and victim advocate ethics
- Ability to use a computer, operate office equipment, and various software applications
- Ability to respond and refer quickly, appropriately, and effectively in crisis situations
- Ability to obtain a certification in Rape Crisis and Domestic Violence
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to complete Utah Victim Assistance Academy training
