Job Description Summary:
This position provides legal representation and support to administration, faculty and staff of The Texas A&M University System on behalf of the Health and Business Affairs section.
Responsibilities:
- Provides legal advice and counsel to System clients in areas, including but not limited to various business law matters relating to commercial, research, and educational related transactions and agreements, which include, but are not limited to, negotiating, drafting, and reviewing contracts; issues relating to state purchasing guidelines and requirements; affiliation agreements; interagency agreements; and inter-institutional agreements.
- Advise System clients on a variety of matters involving intellectual property relating to patents, trade secrets, copyrights, trademarks, and other forms of intellectual property, which include, but are not limited to, licensing issues, business ventures, protection, and enforcement.
- Assist in drafting and preparing responses to proposed legislation and counseling on legislation passed into law. Develop draft policies and regulations. Develop well research internal legal memorandums and opinions.
- Provide legal advice and counsel to System clients in judicial and administrative hearings that are not handled by The Attorney General of Texas.
- Assist the Office of the Attorney General with matters being handled by the Attorney General that pertain to System business law and/or intellectual property matters.
- Participate in Office of General Counsel matters, including practice area assignments, workshops, briefing papers, legal memoranda, special initiatives, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- B.A./B.S. plus an earned LLB or JD degree from an accredited law school.
- One year of related legal experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to manage a broad range of complex legal issues.
- Availability to travel across state to System locations.
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses:
Member of the State Bar of Texas in good standing or will obtain a Texas law license through reciprocity within 12 months of hire date.
