You will play an important role in designing, building out, and implementing the company’s internal and external compliance strategies and processes. You will report to the Assistant General Counsel and collaborate frequently with other attorneys and legal staff, as well as other employees in different departments throughout the company.

In this role you will:
  • Assist the Assistant General Counsel in the further development, implementation, and enforcement of company policies and procedures designed to mitigate risk.
  • Review and negotiate vendor contracts, NDAs, and data privacy agreements.
  • Work closely with other business units across the company, auditing practices and implementing procedures.
  • Train employees on compliance initiatives.
  • Stay up to date on new statutes, regulations, case law, and best practices, and incorporate these into the company’s compliance program.
  • Assist with maintaining a comprehensive policy binder containing all policies/written protocols that reflect the company’s work on building an A+ compliance program.
  • Provide recommendations to senior attorneys and management regarding potential solutions to compliance issues as they arise.
  • Provide assistance on various other general matters within the legal department.
Why you should apply:
  • Mission driven company: Forward is a trusted source of fast, flexible funding for small businesses that have often been underserved by traditional financing options. When you join the team, you will help ensure all small businesses have access to the financial support they need to succeed.
  • Flexibility is a top priority: Our employees are empowered to choose where they want to work (whether that’s from home, in the office, or a combination of both) with flexible hours.
Requirements:

(Even if you don’t check every box, but see yourself contributing, please apply.)

  • Experience working as an attorney (2-3 years preferred).
  • Strong attention to detail and issue-spotting skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with senior attorneys, management, fellow employees and external counsel.
  • Ability to break down complicated laws and regulations into understandable and approachable language.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Self-motivated, organized and able to work independently.
  • Effective in a fast-paced environment, with an ability to juggle multiple workstreams and pivot quickly.
Forward Financing Core Values:
  • Drive the Mission - We believe in financial opportunity for underserved small businesses. We say “yes” when others say “no.”
  • Keep It Real - We value direct communication, candid feedback, and authenticity. We are an open book.
  • Act With Kindness - We create an environment where caring is cool and helping is the norm. We do the right thing.
  • Shoot for Extraordinary - We are inspired by innovative thinking and continuous improvement. We never settle for yesterday’s best.

Workplace flexibility is a top priority at Forward too. Our Employee Choice policy means that almost all of our employees get to decide where they work. As a business, we are focused on impact; we are more concerned with your contributions to the success of the company than where you get your work done. If face-to-face time is desired, people managers are empowered to find a cadence that works for their team.

When we aren’t collaborating to drive business and support our customers, we’re finding virtual and in-person ways to get to know our colleagues, celebrate team wins, and have fun together!
