We are seeking a qualified Legal Assistant, on behalf of a federal government customer, to support federal prosecution and defense operations. These contract positions provide direct support to criminal and civil divisions under supervisory guidance.
Essential FunctionsDocument Management and Preparation
- Prepare legal documents and correspondence in final format
- Maintain case files and ensure proper documentation procedures
- Review files and correct record omissions
- Verify closure procedures for completed cases
- Coordinate file storage onsite and archival shipments
Court Support Services
- Assist attorneys with trial preparation activities
- Scan discovery materials into automated systems
- Maintain court calendars and scheduling
- Assemble trial and grand jury exhibits
- Prepare trial notebooks and supporting materials
- Process electronic filings through Case Management/Electronic Case Filing (CM/ECF) system
Administrative Support
- Serve as backup receptionist when needed
- Support Administrative Division special projects
- Handle mail distribution and court runs
- Assist with office relocations and moves
- Complete various assignments as directed
Experience and Skills
- Demonstrated experience in legal support functions
- Knowledge of legal document preparation and filing procedures
- Proficiency with electronic case management systems
- Strong organizational and file management capabilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Security Requirements
- Must obtain favorable "sensitive" background investigation, Risk Level 4, Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI)
- Compliance with Department of Justice (DOJ) Residency Requirements
- United States residency for three of the last five years prior to contract start
- Meet Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD)-12 requirements
Technical Proficiencies
- Computer literacy and database navigation
- Familiarity with legal research platforms (training provided for Eclipse, Relativity, Lexis/Nexis, Westlaw, and Public Access to Court Electronic Records (PACER))
- Electronic filing system experience preferred
- Document scanning and management system knowledge
Physical Requirements
- Office environment setting
- Walking, standing, and bending as needed
- Ability to carry small office items
- Standard desk work capabilities
Schedule and Travel
- Standard federal holiday schedule observed
- Occasional pre-approved travel required
- Possible training at National Advocacy Center, Columbia, South Carolina
- NO TELEWORK - 100% onsite presence required at Denver office
- Overtime availability up to 160 hours annually
