Job Description

The Department of Financial Protection and Innovation is recruiting for one, Permanent, Full-time Legal Assistant position within the Enforcement Division. This position is to be located in the Sacramento or San Francisco office. This recruitment may be used to fill subsequent vacancies of these positions within the next 180 days.

Under the immediate direction the Staff Services Manager I of the Legal Support Unit, the Legal Assistant is responsible for routine paralegal duties for the Enforcement Division. The incumbent will support investigations and litigation in state court, federal court, administrative court, bankruptcy court, and appellate courts. The incumbent will prepare preliminary case reports and pleadings, analyzes and researches designated legal issues, and independently prepares correspondence to complainants. The legal assistant will assist in trial and deposition preparation. The incumbent attends and assists at trials, hearings, and depositions.

Department Information

The Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) protects consumers and oversees financial service providers and products. The DFPI supervises the operations of state-licensed financial institutions, including banks, credit unions and money transmitters. Additionally, the DFPI licenses and regulates a variety of financial service providers, including securities brokers and dealers, investment advisers, payday lenders and other consumer finance lenders. Working Conditions

This job requires reporting on site, however, telework may be available once established.

Sacramento Location: The Sacramento office is in the new state-of-the-art May Lee State Office Complex in Sacramento's River District, conveniently located next to Light Rail. On site parking available for a fee.

San Francisco Location: The San Francisco office is located in the heart of the financial district within walking distance to BART and restaurants. Parking available for a fee.
