Job duties:
The Lead Public Health Attorney will manage the administration, direction, and coordination of a team of Public Health attorneys. Responsibilities include supervision, management, and mentoring of the team’s work goals and performance while ensuring consistent application of administrative policies, procedures, and legal requirements. The lead attorney will provide legal guidance to the agency’s Division of Public Health and serve as the liaison between the Division’s leadership team and the Public Health attorney team.

Hiring rate of position: Negotiable; commensurate with education and/or experience, if approved.
Requirements/ Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Three years of experience as an attorney practicing law and providing legal services such as preparing and trying cases, advising clients, and/or interpreting laws or administrative policies.
Legal Requirements: In accordance with Section 7-101, Nebraska Revised, Reissued Statutes of l943, incumbents in this class must be admitted to the Nebraska Bar.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
Current knowledge of, or the ability to quickly grasp, public health principles, law, and policy; facilitate solutions between multiple parties; interact with other governmental agencies, the public, and representatives of parties involved in a case; formulate legal opinions and recommendations based on legal research and investigations; conduct or coordinate legal research; interpret and apply statutes, case law, decisions of judicial and administrative hearings, and administrative rules and policies; assign and evaluate work of assigned staff.
Experience managing or leading legal staff is preferred.
