Are you passionate about supporting justice and making a difference in the lives of crime victims? Bring your passion for Justice to the Carolina Coast! The Office of the District Attorney, Prosecutorial District 6, seeks a District Attorney Legal Assistant to provide critical legal and victim support services, ensuring that victims of crime receive the assistance and advocacy they need. As a legal assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting prosecutors and assisting victims and witnesses through the legal process in New Hanover and Pender County.

At the District Attorney’s Office, every team member contributes to delivering justice and supporting the community. This is more than a job; it’s a chance to make a meaningful impact alongside a dedicated team of legal professionals. You will work closely with prosecutors, law enforcement, and other community partners. Whether you’re assisting victims and witnesses, coordinating resources, or preparing legal documents, your work will be integral to achieving justice.

Duties include but are not limited to the following: answer phones, assist the public, type correspondence, prepare legal documents, prepare, organize and maintain case files, assist victims and witnesses, gather information to assist in the prosecution of cases, connect victims to resources, assist prosecutors with administrative tasks and trial preparation as needed. Some overnight travel may be required for training.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Knowledge of: court system and procedures; legal terminology; and community resources to refer victims and witnesses.

Skill in: Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; accurately typing 35-40 wpm; and answering a multi-line telephone system.

Ability to: interview to elicit information from victims and witnesses to assure appropriate services; coordinate and schedule the daily operations of the victim and witness program; manage the court appearances of victims and witnesses to ensure their presence in the courtroom when needed; communicate orally and in writing with persons of diverse backgrounds; establish and maintain effective working relationships with law enforcement officers, officials of related agencies and the general public; and calmly handle stressful situations.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Graduation from high school or high school equivalency certificate and two (2) years of legal secretarial experience.
