Regulatory Attorney

We are seeking candidates for our Regulatory Attorney role in the Washington, D.C. area.

Consideration will be given to work remotely from home, contingent on business needs.

The Regulatory Attorney will provide legal support and advise various Corporate and field Operations teams on federal and state energy regulatory matters impacting the Company’s businesses and operations. This attorney will be an essential member of the Regulatory Compliance team as part of Talen Energy’s compliance program. 

What will you own?  

• Develop expertise to provide efficient compliance advice concerning time sensitive projects and matters.
• Develop and harness relationships within Talen Energy to foster compliance with a broad range of U.S laws and regulations affecting power generation and energy business.  
• Develop and harness relationships with business counterparts at other generation companies to coordinate policy initiatives and collaborate with other aligned entities.
• Develop expertise in all relevant matters pending before FERC and state commissions and provide strategic recommendations regarding Talen’s position and actions in these proceedings.
• Stay well-informed about, and advise on, regulatory and industry developments, including monitoring evolving trends in statutes, regulations and public policy surrounding energy, power generation and environmental matters. 

What you have:  

• Strong communication skills with a proven ability to establish relationships, build trust, manage conflict, and influence others, both internally and externally. 
• A track record for producing results, being accountable, and demonstrating the ability to use mature decision-making judgment. 
• Strong analytical and technical skills across various administrative and regulatory law functions, and ability to work effectively in a complex, fast paced environment. 
• Being a self-starter, with the ability to work both independently as well as with a team.
• 5-7 years of experience in regulatory law, including FERC or state commission experience.
• Experience with PJM regulatory issues related to an electric-based company.
• Proven experience in legal research and writing memos or other legal communications.
• Juris Doctor (JD) degree required.
• Ability to travel up to 10%.
