The Glassdoor Legal Team is devoted to leading projects that support Glassdoor’s mission and growth. Members of the Legal Team work closely with multiple departments within the organization, such as Product, Engineering, Marketing, Procurement, Finance, People, Places and Experiences (PPE), IT/Security, Trust & Safety, and Go-to-Market to review legal issues and implement decisions in order to get internal teams the guidance, tools, and creative solutions they need to get their job done, while mitigating risk and exposure to the company. We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Litigation and Employment Counsel to join our Legal team and be responsible for independently leading litigation and employment-related matters.  The ideal candidate is a confident and communicative individual with the ability to independently analyze and make strategic decisions. You are business and tech-savvy, possess strong project and people management skills, and are accustomed to working with people all over the world. Furthermore, you are a self-starter who thrives in a fun but results-oriented work environment and are passionate about problem-solving while showing great attention to detail. This role will report directly to Glassdoor’s Vice President, Head of Legal.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead and manage a broad range of litigation matters, with emphasis on first amendment and employment law matters in close partnership with outside counsel and Glassdoor’s People, Places, and Experience (PPE) team
  • Will collaborate and assist the company by giving advice/guidance regarding subpoenas and diverse litigation matters, domestic and international, and respond to and manage the company’s position and correspondence with outside legal and non-legal inquiries, complaints, and matters.
  • Counsel the company regarding the full range of issues that may arise during employment, including with respect to recruitment and hiring, employment contracts, diversity, inclusion and belonging, ethics, discrimination and harassment, performance management, terminations, benefits, and general human resources  compliance 
  • Provide litigation support in all types of cases, mediations, and arbitrations
  • Advise on policy creation and implementation in support of human resources  functions 
  • Provide creative and business-focused problem-solving, with the ability to balance legal risk and business impact 
  • Think collaboratively to create common-sense solutions to complex problems 
  • Stay updated on multistate jurisdictions to effectively mitigate litigation risks 
  • Analyze, address, and provide legal advice to a cross-functional team of lawyers in all practice areas 

What You'll Bring:

  • Member in good standing of a US bar (California bar a plus)
  • Qualified lawyer with at least 6+ years’ of relevant experience
  • At least 2+ years in-house counsel experience required
  • Solid understanding of litigation, employment law and contractual principles
  • Experience leading and managing cross-functional and cross jurisdictional litigation
  • Experience with Canada, the UK, Ireland, and the larger EU a plus.
  • Experience providing legal advice on a wide range of litigation and employment matters
  • Experience drafting and negotiating employment-related documents/agreements
  • Experience advising employers or legal partners on employment-related policies and practices
  • Experience working directly with stakeholders inside and outside the legal function, able to  build relationships of confidence and trust while effectively  influencing partners
  • Ability and desire to work independently with little oversight, be proactive, take initiative and multi-task in an agile environment, while exuding a team approach to the practice of law 
  • Flexible and comfortable working in a fast-paced internet and technology environment
  • Possess sound judgment initiative and versatility, and be capable of solving problems and making smart and practical decisions with limited information
  • Capable of and comfortable with navigating ambiguity
  • Possess strong organizational skills and ability to effectively prioritize and manage deadlines  
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present complex ideas clearly and concisely to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Outstanding academic credentials and professional experience
  • Experience/familiarity with CDA Section 230 platform protections is a plus!
Compensation and benefits Base salary range*: $142,720 - $189,550

Glassdoor base salaries are targeted to the market 75th percentile for technical roles and the 65th percentile for non-technical roles. In other words, 65-75% of comparable organizations in our industry will pay less.

Annual bonus target**: 10% **Bonuses are paid in 6-month intervals, aligning with bi-annual performance reviews Generous Restricted Stock Units (RSU): ***Restricted Stock Units (RSU) are awarded at hire and may be refreshed annually. Additionally, as a pay-for-performance company, there are additional RSU grant awards for the very top performers. Health and wellness: 100% employer-paid premiums for employee medical, dental, vision, life, short and long-term disability and select well-being programs, along with 80% employer-paid premiums for all dependents.
  • Generous paid time-off programs for birthing and non-birthing parents are provided, along with additional company-sponsored leaves such as paid injury/illness leave, family emergency leave, compassionate leave, and domestic & sexual violence leave.

Where-to-Work Policy
