In this role as a Vice President, Assistant General Counsel within JPMorgan’s Commerical and Investment Bank Legal Team, you will be given opportunities for growth and development as you join a well-established team that provides best-in-class support to the Global Credit Trading businesses and to the Commercial & Investment Bank more broadly.  You will be the go-to lawyer for prominent Wall Street bankers and traders as you advise on a variety of matters that are key to the success of businesses that operate in competitive spaces within the global financial markets.  You will collaborate with legal colleagues across JPMorgan, as well as with compliance, risk, conflicts, and operations partners.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide legal coverage for secondary trading of performing and distressed loans, bankruptcy claims, and securities
  • Lead legal coverage for JPMorgan’s proprietary structured debt and preferred equity investments
  • Work with external counsel to review and negotiate legal documentation
  • Identify legal, regulatory, and compliance issues, analyze problems, and provide viable solutions
  • Collaborate with global business teams and legal/compliance colleagues to resolve issues
  • Communicate and interact effectively with all levels of personnel and management
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with lawyers, control partners, and business colleagues
  • Provide valued independent counsel and wise judgment on business strategies
  • Manage projects efficiently with strong organizational and communication skills

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • JD or equivalent  
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in lending, credit trading, or restructuring at a law firm or an equivalent in-house position
  • Ability to communicate effectively and to skillfully draft and negotiate legal documentation
  • Strong business acumen with ability to understand client needs and develop pragmatic solutions
  • Adaptability and Intellectual Curiosity: Ability to quickly adapt to new market opportunities and challenges, with a strong drive to learn and tackle emerging legal issues
  • Strategic and Innovative Thinking: Capacity to innovate and think strategically in addressing complex problems
  • Cross-Disciplinary Navigation: Skilled at navigating complex, cross-disciplinary issues in a rapidly evolving environment
  • Teamwork and Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team and interact with stakeholders across the organization

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • Experience in liability management transactions; preferred equity investments; and structured finance
  • Knowledge of bankruptcy law; securities laws; broker-dealer regulations; and banking regulations

     

All candidates for roles in the Legal department must be licensed to practice law in the country of employment and successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment.
