
- Minimum Qualifications
Completion of core course requirements for a juris doctorate of law and at least three years of experience (seven years of criminal law experience preferred), preferred to have at least one year in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must be admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Virginia and admitted to the Virginia State Bar. Considerable knowledge of: basic general law, substantive and procedural, civil and criminal law, law as it pertains to state and local government within Virginia, and personnel management. Skill and knowledge of prosecuting cases arising in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court in a trauma-informed, victim-centered manner. Experience working with partner agencies. Considerable skill in: making legal decisions independently and without direction, written and verbal communication, negotiating and presenting legal arguments, interpreting rules, regulations and statues, meeting statutory, regulator and judicial deadlines, mentoring, and supervising. Spanish/English bilingual skills preferred (but not required). Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background and education/degree verification required.
This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check.- Duties
Supervises, trains, mentors, and provides support to the Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorneys; represents the Commonwealth’s Attorney as required in her absence; prosecutes cases in court; collaborates with partners in law enforcement; reviews cases and assigns them as appropriate; monitors sentencing decisions, including show cause proceedings when appropriate. Performs other work as required. The ideal candidate will have a specific interest and experience in cases arising out of the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
