This position is located in the Headquarters Office of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Office of the Chairman, Office of the General Counsel, Division of Federal Court Litigation. The Division is responsible for the conduct of all Federal court litigation, final decisions under the Freedom of Information Act, and information disclosure to the public and related statutory provisions, such as section 6 of the Consumer Product Safety Act.
Duties The incumbent serves as a senior attorney in the Federal Court Litigation Division and as such is responsible for: Handling federal court enforcement litigation as the primary Commission attorney. Advising the Commission, individual Commissioners, and the staff on legal matters that arise in enforcement activities, information disclosure, meetings and other day-to-day events that fall within the Division's area and that have a critical impact on the Commission's work. Handling subpoenas and requests for the testimony of Commission employees. Drafting decisions on Freedom of Information Act appeals (delegated by the Commission to the General Counsel), which involve the analysis of legal arguments presented by the appellant and applicable case law. Handling regulations or amendments involving enforcement issues, including working with the staff, drafting the necessary documents, briefing the Commission, and assuring Federal Register publication. Salary- $167,603 - $195,200/year
