The purpose of this class is to develop and manage the social media initiatives for the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. This job works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Minimum Requirements- Requires a Bachelor's Degree in in Web Development, Marketing, Graphics, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Media or a related field required.
- Requires four years in social media and Web or blog site management; good knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and directives applicable to governmental public information or closely related experience.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
- Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
Additional Requirements- Requires effective communication with internal and external customers.
- Duties may be performed outside normal working hours
- Requires some local travel.
- The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.

What YOU will be doing: - Prepares presentations or videos to promote the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office at the direction of the Commonwealth’s Attorney or designee. May accompany and assist the Commonwealth’s Attorney at community presentations.
- Designs, manages, and monitors the social media components of the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office’s web presence.
- Plans and implements technology-based strategies to assist in communicating information about the community, employee relations, and public relations.
- Provides guidance in social networking, community relations, marketing, media relations, and event planning as required.
- Develops plans and programs to meet specific needs.
- Develops ideas for video content, including setting up, shooting, editing, posting, and promoting videos of events, testimonials, or messages from citizens, businesses, and staff members.
- Serves as lead photographer for the office, including photographing events.
- Creates and reworks content for various social media platforms and interacts with users as a key voice of the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. Monitors platforms periodically during evenings and weekends, responding to citizens as necessary. • Attends outreach events, producing content, and implementing targeted marketing campaigns.
- Builds and maintains the office’s content distribution network through social media channels and e-newsletters. Ensures all social media content is archived and complies with applicable record retention guidelines.
- Participates in conversations related to the office’s content and brand, answering questions while ensuring visibility and branding efforts align with a national focus.
- Raises office visibility and branding of special projects, programs to a national level through generating content and utilizing social media.
- Routinely utilizes digital, print and other traditional media to disseminate press releases and content.
- Monitors and analyzes trade, local, and national media and blogs to provide updates, insights, and opportunities for content development.
- Attends outreach events, producing content, and implementing targeted marketing campaigns.
- Develops relationships with media professionals, generates press releases, and expands office contacts and connections.
- Assists the Commonwealth Attorney in identifying national conferences and speaking engagements.
- Acts as Master of Ceremonies for department-sponsored events and ceremonies, providing script content for staff members and introducing honorees.
- Identifies and reports threats such as offensive, obscene, inappropriate or potentially libelous material in user-generated content.
- Administers the department’s website, maintaining and updating it with current information, pictures, articles, features, and videos.
- Demonstrates regular and punctual attendance.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- $25.26 - $27.78/hour
