Legal Aid of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberland See More Job Openings by This EmployerThe Bilingual Intake Specialist will interview clients, screen and complete initial intake information for new cases, and enter data into our computer system. The Bilingual Intake Specialist will work with the Health, Benefits, and Education unit, which works on Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, SNAP, and special education cases. The Intake Specialist is the applicant’s first contact with Legal Aid. The ability to effectively communicate and treat clients with respect is a must. This role will involve regular, on-site outreach in several target counties throughout Middle Tennessee. This position is funded in part by, and in collaboration with one or more grants. This position is funded for the duration of the grant. Subsequent renewal may result in modification of job duties and responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct phone and in-person intake interviews and screen applicants for conflicts of interest, legal problem, and eligibility.
- This role includes periodic travel within a 9-county service area, including Davidson County and 2–3 other counties each month, to conduct in-person intakes. Mileage is reimbursed. [ZO1] Communicate with applicants about the process and timelines for assistance.
- Create and maintain positive working relationships with organizations in the service area and state which would benefit the client population.
- Maintain accurate and orderly client files, adhering to case management database policies and guidelines.
- Support the casework of attorneys as assigned. Carefully follow directions and promptly respond to requests of attorneys and other staff.
- Attend weekly case review meetings or other meetings as requested by supervisor.
- High School Diploma or GED required. Associate’s degree preferred.
- 2 years prior experience working in a law office, court, social service agency, or other relevant setting. Office administration experience.
- Experience working with low-income people.
- Basic proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel software.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, including client interviews and helping people in crisis. Proficiency of office equipment (copiers, scanners, facsimile, postage machine, etc.).
- Fluency in both English and either Arabic or Spanish. Language proficiency will be screened during the interview.
- Valid Tennessee drivers license and access to a personal vehicle.
