This is an in-office position, requiring three days a week in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) and flexibility on Mondays and Fridays.

About this role
We’re seeking a Senior Product Counsel to join our collaborative and fast-paced Legal Team. You’ll be responsible for advising on products, compliance, and marketing initiatives, along with a wide range of additional responsibilities that are sure to come along as we continue to scale our global business. We’re looking for someone who can help us maintain our earnestly authentic culture while collaborating with different teams to handle projects with flexibility, patience, and poise. This position reports to the Associate General Counsel.
What you’ll be doing

Provide strategic counsel to Udemy’s product, design, engineering, and marketing teams throughout the entire product lifecycle, from ideation and development to launch and post-launch operations, balancing innovation with legal and business risks

Advise on global compliance matters, including consumer protection, privacy, accessibility, and intellectual property, with a focus on building scalable guidance that supports Udemy’s international growth

Partner with marketing teams on campaign reviews, pricing strategies, influencer engagements, brand initiatives, and promotional offers, ensuring alignment with advertising laws, FTC guidance, and global consumer regulations

Collaborate cross-functionally with teams, including support and security, to proactively address risk and build policies and processes that support compliant user experiences

Track and interpret evolving laws, including AI and digital marketplace regulations, and help translate those into actionable product and business guidance

Lead and manage legal advice on high-impact projects, working closely with senior leadership to align legal advice with business goals

Build scalable frameworks and resources to help teams self-serve and move faster while maintaining compliance
What you’ll have

Minimum 8 years of legal experience, primarily in-house advising in the areas of product, compliance, and marketing

J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school or foreign equivalent
Membership in at least one U.S. state bar in good standing -
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical and actionable advice

Exceptional judgment and decision-making skills, especially in fast-paced environments where business and legal risk must be balanced

Demonstrated ability to quickly grasp complex legal and technical concepts, adapt to evolving priorities, and confidently navigate unfamiliar challenges in a fast-paced environment

Strong organizational and prioritization abilities, with a proven track record of managing a high volume of complex, cross-functional matters with limited direction

Experience advising on consumer subscription products is a plus
