Job Description

The Legal team is responsible for managing the legal affairs of the company, including providing legal counsel across the organization, handling disputes, and creating and enforcing intellectual property.

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced in-house Employment Counsel to join our legal team. The successful candidate will provide expert legal advice and support on a wide range of employment-related matters, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, with a particular emphasis on California employment law. This role requires a deep understanding of employment law, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various departments. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Provide legal counsel on employment-related issues, including hiring, termination, discrimination, harassment, wage and hour laws, and employee benefits, with a focus on California employment law. 

  • Draft, review, and update employment contracts, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws. 

  • Conduct internal investigations related to employee complaints and workplace issues. 

  • Represent the company in employment-related arbitration, and mediation. 

  • Collaborate with the People Team and management to develop and implement effective employee relations strategies. 

  • Stay current on changes in employment law and advise the company on potential impacts. 

  • Provide training and guidance to the People Team and management on employment law matters. 

Qualifications: 

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school. 

  • Admission to the bar of a state and able to practice in-house. 

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in employment law, preferably in an in-house counsel role

  • Experience in Canadian market is a bonus

  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, with a particular emphasis on California employment law. 

  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills. 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

  • High ethical standards and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
