POSITION SUMMARY
The AVP, Counsel will be a member of Arch Insurance Group, Inc.’s Legal team, which provides holistic legal support to our North American insurance business, including business unit support and related litigation.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Manage a diverse litigation docket consisting of corporate, extra-contractual, and complex litigation pending throughout the United States, across varied lines of business, including coverage disputes, first party bad faith claims, and subrogation cases
Provide oversight and support to the Claims Department in complex coverage litigation, including review and approval of declaratory judgment actions
Manage and collaborate with outside counsel to ensure high-quality written work product is filed on behalf of AIGI, including coordination of internal resources, review and approval of pleadings and briefs, legal analysis and formulation of strategy
Provide legal counsel and guidance on the ordinary and special activities of the claims department and specified insurance business unit(s)
Provide legal support, due diligence, and advice regarding acquisitions and strategic investments
Participate in the development and implementation of department initiatives to achieve efficiency and reduction or elimination of legal exposure
Work in partnership with the company's operational areas, including, as appropriate, underwriting, reinsurance, marketing, claims, finance, tax, technology and human resources
Operate as a business partner with the business team by collaborating to successfully achieve the business unit’s goals and objectives
Advise on structuring business relationships, new product development, marketing efforts and other business activities
Support internal projects as needed; provide timely and concise input to senior leadership for quarterly legal reports, team KPIs, strategic initiatives, etc.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Excellent organizational and time management skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Ability to deliver creative and well-reasoned plans to resolve challenges and to execute on such plans
Ability to motivate and mentor paralegal and administrative staff
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
J.D. from an accredited law school and a member in good standing of the bar of any US jurisdiction.
Attorney who has worked at least seven (7) years at a law firm or with an in-house legal department managing litigation, particularly first party property litigation, bankruptcy/creditors rights and Delegated Authority / Programs business.
For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.
$129,500 - $174,800/year
Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
