Oxford Properties is continuing to build out its real estate investment capability in the United States.

We are looking for a highly motivated lawyer to join our team in New York or Boston.  In this role, you will support the Oxford real estate investment, development and asset management teams in the pursuit and execution of complex investments in private and public markets, as well as management of a national portfolio of office, industrial, residential and life sciences assets.

As a member of the Oxford legal team, the Associate Director will be the primary point of contact for the US asset management teams, supporting the legal needs of the property management, leasing and construction verticals.  The Associate Director will review and negotiate vendor contracts, construction agreement and lease-related documents, coordinating with outside counsel and counterparties when relevant.  In addition, the Associate Director support the legal team in all legal aspects of the investment process, including due diligence, negotiation of purchase agreements, development documents, loan agreements, joint venture agreements and related governance agreements, structuring, regulatory review and approvals, and closing mechanics.  The role will also include support of Oxford’s compliance and risk activities, such as regulatory tracking and KYC.

As a member of this team, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing advice to the asset and property management teams on a variety of legal matters, including ongoing operational matters, such as drafting and review of contracts, leases and development agreements, broker agreements, property management agreements, structuring and governance.

  • Overseeing processing and negotiating of non-disclosure agreements.

  • Serving as the primary point of contact for ongoing lease issues and landlord-tenant disputes.

  • Managing several aspects of Oxford’s compliance and risk programs, to insure adherence to internal and external (e.g., lender and partner) requirements and procedures.

  • Developing and building relationships with external law firms and other professional advisors and directing them in the provision of legal advice.

  • Overseeing projects to support transactions and overall objectives of US-based legal team.

  • Liaising with Oxford legal, investments, tax, finance, development, compliance and other areas within the OMERS enterprise and leading cross-functional teams and initiatives.

  • Understanding Oxford’s organizational structure and overseeing the preparation of KYC packages.

  • Providing transactional support to the Oxford legal team with respect to real estate investment and development pursuits, including working with the transaction, treasury and development teams through the due diligence and investment process and liaising with external legal counsel and other professional advisors.

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • A transactional real estate background and experience supporting investment, financing, development and/or leasing transactions in the United States.

  • Qualifications and training to practice law in United States, with a minimum of 3 years experience in an in-house and/or law firm environment.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with sound judgment and the ability to lead projects and interact with a broad range of professionals.

  • An intellectually curious and open-minded demeanor with the desire to be part of a team and a willingness to learn.

  • A strong work ethic, integrity and a positive attitude, with a willingness to support the business and provide practical, timely legal advice and guidance. 

As required by New York law, OMERS & Oxford provides a reasonable range of base salary for each role that is advertised in New York. The salary offered to the successful candidate will consider a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill set and level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered.

For New York only, the annualized base salary range for this role is $180,000 - 230,000. You may also be eligible to receive an annual Incentive Award which may include Short-term Incentive, benefits, and/or retirement savings plan – details on these elements of compensation are included within OMERS & Oxford offer letters.

The annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations are listed below. The base salary that is ultimately offered to the successful candidate will consider a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill set.
