Corporate Counsel – Remote

The Corporate Counsel will collaborate with the General Counsel and advise as to the company’s contractual rights and obligations, solve complex problems, and maintain negotiation and certification records. This role will work closely with sales/account management, RFP response team, and the domestic corporate contracts manager, and report to the General Counsel.  

 

The ideal candidate will have a background in corporate, commercial, and data privacy law. 

 

This is a fully remote position. 

 

Expedition Expectations  

  • Serve as a key member of the contract review team with an emphasis on ensuring compliance with Direct Travel’s established policies, procedures, and tolerances as it relates to client agreements in the global context.
  • Draft and finalize legal documents including client and supplier contracts, confidentiality agreements, and amendments to the client, SaaS/technology agreements, independent contractors, employees/billable workers, and suppliers, as needed
  • Independently facilitate contract escalations with Direct Travel’s General Counsel and Direct Travel’s strategic partner, ATPI.  
  • Lead contract negotiations with clients, billable workers, independent contractors ensuring that compliance is achieved and consistency of contractual obligations are met 
  • Collaborate and perform cross-functionally across organization, providing legal advice and services on legal matters and industry-specific issues.
  • Maintain and manage the Direct Travel CLM/CRM, and be responsible for the entire contract lifecycle, ensuring adherence to Direct Travel’s tolerance and risk levels, for numerous client accounts
  • Provide support and feedback for the development and implementation of department processes and procedures, including but not limited to leading special projects, reporting, distribution of contract templates to sales, SOP updates, etc.
  • Continuously meet contractual service levels and maintain compliance with other contractual requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Passport to Success 

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • JD from accredited law school
  • Licensed to practice law in at least one state and in good standing
  • 3+ years’ experience working as an attorney at a law firm and/or in-house legal department
  • Established analytical ability and excellent communication and advocacy skills, with an aptitude for practical negotiation, clear thinking and succinct communication to all levels of an organization
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including ability to influence others to deliver on commitments and work with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to develop process-driven solutions for recurring issues
  • Proficient experience with Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Sharepoint and Outlook)
  • Must be able to connect “micro” details to the “macro” vision and mission

  • Business acumen with the ability to balance legal risk with commercial needs of a travel management company
  • Exercises initiative and independent judgment; self-starter capable of taking ownership of projects/matters
  • Ability to manage a high volume of projects and contracts on short timeframes
  • Experience in the travel industry and/or meetings & events space
  • Experience with international commercial contracts and data processing agreements
  • Effective prioritization, adaptability, and ability to consistently meet deadlines
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of management and functional teams
