JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the prosecution of State of Georgia Drug Court, Veterans Treatment Court, and other felony matters in the Atlantic Judicial Circuit and for the representation of the Georgia Department of Human Services, Division of Child Support Services in the administration of the child support program in the Atlantic Judicial Circuit of Georgia.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Represents the State of Georgia in Drug Court, Veterans Treatment court, and for other felony matters.
- Represents the Georgia Department of Human Services, Division of Child Support Services for child support matters.
- Drafts petitions, motions, orders, and accusations; prepares plea paperwork for Drug and Veterans Treatment Courts; drafts motions and orders for the Division of Child Support Services.
- Reviews and approves petitions, orders, notices, and contempt referrals for the Division of Child Support Services.
- Reviews referrals to Drug Court and Veterans Treatment Court.
- Participates in meetings and phone calls with treatment providers, law enforcement personnel, accountability court administrators, and attorneys.
- Provides legal guidance to the management and staff of the Division of Child Support Services.
- Provides assistance to Law Enforcement and advises on legalities of obtaining arrest warrants and search warrants.
- Attends staffing for Drug and Veterans Treatment Courts and for Parental Accountability Court.
- Attends conferences for Drug Court, Veterans Treatment Court, the Division of Child Support Services, and the Prosecuting Attorney’s Counsel.
- Researches case law and statutes.
- Prepares for hearings in Drug Court, Veterans Treatment Court, and other felony matters.
- Prepares proof-of-claims to be filed in Bankruptcy Court for the Division of Child Support Services.
- Prepares cases for and presents cases to the Grand Jury.
- Assigns court duties as needed.
- Confers with Victims and Witnesses during the court process.
- Maintains communication with the District Attorney, Assistant District Attorneys, Judges and Defense Attorneys.
- Performs related duties.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal law.
- Knowledge of trial proceedings.
- Knowledge of Drug Court and Veterans Treatment Court procedures.
- Knowledge of Division of Child Support Services child support program policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
- Skill in the completion of legal research.
- Skill in producing persuasive legal arguments.
- Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
- Skill in oral and written communication.

- Contacts are typically with co-workers, victims, law enforcement personnel, judges, witnesses, jurors, medical professionals, attorneys, treatment providers, representatives of state agencies, and members of the general public.
- Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, provide services, resolve problems, justify decisions, and negotiate and settle matters.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
- The work is typically performed in an office.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position has functional supervision over Administrative and Victim Witness Staff. Functional supervision typically involves the ability to assign, coordinate, and review quality and quantity of work of other employees.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduation from an accredited school of law.
- More than five (5) years of related experienced required.
- Admission to State of Georgia Court of Appeals/Supreme Court.
