
The mission of the Civil Rights Department (CRD) is to protect the people of California from discrimination in employment, housing, and public accomodations, and from perpetrations of acts of hate violence.
An Attorney III of the Outreach and Education Unit is a senior member of the team who is responsible for drafting and editing educational materials on a variety of legal topics, delivering high-quality legal trainings and presentations, and advancing CRD’s mission through the development of innovative educational initiatives. Under the general direction of the Assistant Deputy Director of Outreach and Education (Assistant Deputy Director), an Attorney III in the Outreach and Education Unit performs the duties listed below.
Hire Above Minimum Information:
The Attorney III qualifies for a "Hire Above Minimum" (HAM). The starting salary will be $11,695.

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
• Experience with the California Fair Employment and Housing Act, the Unruh Civil Rights Act, the Ralph Civil Rights Act, Government Code section 11135, and other laws enforced by the Department
• Experience with civil rights litigation in employment, housing, public accommodations, hate violence, and/or human trafficking
• Experience with the Department’s complaint process
• Experience with training and educational pedagogy, including best practices for teaching legal concepts to lay audiences
• Excellent research skills and analytical abilities
• Outstanding oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with different types of people in different roles

The California Civil Rights Department (CRD) formally known as Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH or Department) is the civil rights enforcement agency for the State of California. CRD's mission is to protect all people in California from employment, housing and public accommodation discrimination, human trafficking and hate violence.
The CRD is the largest state civil rights enforcement agency in the country. It enforces the California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), Unruh Civil Rights Act, Disabled Person Act, Ralph Civil Rights Act and the California Trafficking Victims Protection Act. The Department has jurisdiction over both private and public entities operating within the State of California, including corporate entities, private sector companies that contract with the State of California, and all State department and Local governments.
This position is hybrid and will require in office days to be established with your supervisor in accordance with Department policy.
