Job Description

SoHo Dragon represents an investment bank with offices in New York, NY that needs to hire a Regulatory Attorney for a contract opportunity.


Missions

 

  • The position is for 1 year.

 

  • The person will join more senior attorneys in the Legal Department providing regulatory advice on a high profile 2 year regulatory implementation project on U.S. Treasury Clearing, working side-by-side with colleagues in Compliance, Operations, Front Office and other functions of a bank/broker-dealer.

 

  • The regulatory areas covered by the project require working closely with membership rules of Clearing Houses as well as select SEC and FINRA rules, and may involve delving into accounting concepts, foreign laws and other areas such as capital, clearing or margin.

 

  • The role will entail:

 

o   working closely with other attorneys in developing project-supporting research and documentation,

o   reviewing work product by others (e.g. certain compliance policies) for completeness and accuracy,

o   participating in project governance,

o   researching and writing legal memoranda, and

o   summarizing industry implementation calls and sharing insights with other stakeholders.

 

Profile

 

Required skills & competencies

  • JD or equivalent (LLM)

 

  • 1 to 5 years of experience as a practicing lawyer (inhouse experience a plus)

 

  • Admitted to the Bar in a US State (NY preferred)

 

  • High energy, enthusiasm, efficiency and self-motivation

 

  • Solution-oriented

 

  • Keen judgment

 

  • Ability to deliver tasks and synthesize information at a high level of quality, thoroughness and efficiency by focusing on the key elements

 

  • Effective in setting priorities, adapting to changes and meeting demanding deadlines on multiple concurrent initiatives

  • Some project management skills are a plus

  • Ability to effectively interact with internal groups, ideally proven by prior work experience, including outside of the Legal realm.

  • Ability to work independently as well as with other members of the Legal Department and other areas of the firm

  • Some legal expertise in financial regulatory areas preferred, such as derivatives, clearing, fixed income, or broker-dealer regulation

  • Strong writing skills, including for use in internal communications, policies, trainings and legal memoranda

 

Good presentation skills, familiarity with PowerPoint and Excel a plus
