The Criminal Justice Section, Financial Fraud Unit within the Colorado Department of Law is seeking a collaborative and team-oriented attorney with a prosecution background. This attorney will work on a multi-disciplinary team to prosecute insurance and securities fraud throughout the state. In this position, you will have the opportunity to dig deep into complex cases and work on a wide variety of diverse cases. You will see cases ranging from staged and caused accidents rings to complex securities fraud. WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Financial Fraud Unit is a criminal prosecution unit that is statutorily authorized to seek out and prosecute certain financial crimes. This criminal prosecutor will work in a specialized unit with other prosecutors, criminal investigators, and paralegals who are dedicated exclusively to the investigation and prosecution of fraud.  The attorney will work directly with law enforcement, as well as regulatory and private entities throughout the state to bring about criminal investigations and prosecutions.  The attorney will review referrals, assist with investigation of allegations of both securities and insurance fraud, and ultimately make charging decisions. We would be excited to have someone on our team that has strong leadership and collaborative skills, has the ability to lead teams on complex cases, and who would be excited present cases before the statewide grand jury. 

This recruitment may be used to fill more than one Assistant Attorney General position in the Criminal Justice section.

Salary note: 

The Department of Law uses a wage progression compensation model. Although a salary range is listed, salary will be set commensurate with the successful candidate's qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.  

Attorneys with less than 3 years of experience as a practicing attorney will be hired as an Assistant Attorney General I (AAG I). The salary range for an AAG I is $85,795-$95,437/ annually. 


Attorneys with more than 3 years of experience practicing as an attorney will be hired as an Assistant Attorney General II (AAG II). The AAG II salary range is $99,318 - $132,901/ annually. 


Salary will be paid on a biweekly basis.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Qualified applicants must be licensed to practice law in Colorado or be clearly eligible to waive into the Colorado Bar. Candidates eligible to waive into the Colorado Bar will be required to submit proof of their completed application before the first day of employment.

The ideal candidate for this position will have prosecution experience and be a collaborative team member. We have a multi-disciplinary team that works closely together and who rely on one another, so an ability and eagerness to work with others is incredibly important to us. While not required, given the nature of our work our preference is for someone with at least two years of criminal prosecution experience who has independently conducted multiple jury trials as first chair. We are also looking for strong researchers and writers, and individuals who can communicate confidently and effectively with team members.
