- The City of Avondale has an opportunity for a Court Clerk II with the City Court. This is a FLSA non-exempt, full-time position with benefits.Hiring Range: $21.41 - $26.76Salary range is the entire compensation range for the position classification.Hiring range is an estimate of the compensation amount for the selected candidate. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, and/or training.
Performs responsible and varied legal clerical work in the City Court system, which involves considerable public and telephone contact work, processing, filing, and reporting of case file information from public and law enforcement agencies in accordance with strict Court policies. Handles adverse, critical, and confrontational situations in a stressful environment; establishes and maintains effective working relationships with coworkers and management; and develops team interaction. This position requires great attention to detail and accuracy. The duties of this class are performed in a court and general office environment in compliance with court policies. - Essential Functions
Prepares and processes cases such as civil and criminal traffic, parking violations, and civil matters in compliance with legal requirements and procedures. Processes default judgment cases and issues Notice of Pending Default and Notice of Failure to Pay Suspension letters and appeals.
Assists judges, attorneys, and defendants in the courtroom by preparing handwritten motions, orders, and sentencing documents for the court record. Manages court audio recordings.
Enters, edits, and retrieves data utilizing court-specific computer software. Prepares and scans documents and case files for archiving.
Performs file management functions including alphabetical and numerical case filing, creating new case files, tracking case files, matching documents to case files, and responding to public records requests.
Audits and verifies court-specific software data against case files for discrepancies and takes corrective action. Processes destruction of case files pursuant to retention schedules.
Reviews court case files for accuracy and completion, determines the next appropriate action, and forwards files for proper handling. Monitors cases for compliance with court orders including restitution, jail time, defensive driving school attendance, counseling, and community service.
Maintains proper records and control of charges filed in court cases and the disposition of each charge. Verifies daily deposits and prepares deposits for pick up, including monthly city accounting reports.
Performs administrative functions by issuing failure to appear and failure to pay warrants; processes and enters payment plans; provides customer service; and processes summons for jury trials.
Processes FARE and online payments.
Pulls case files and prepares the court civil traffic calendar docket for distribution.
Performs Court Clerk I functions on an as-needed basis and other work duties as assigned.- Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED equivalency is required.
A minimum of one (1) year of court clerk experience and one (1) year of customer service experience is required.
Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
Administrative Supreme Court Order: obtain 16 CO-JET credits annually.
Passing a pre-employment screening including a thorough background investigation and psychological examination is required.- Supplemental Information

Within this job, the employee normally performs the duty assignment within broad parameters defined by general organizational requirements and accepted practices. Total end results determine the effectiveness of job performance. The incumbent responds to and resolve difficult and sensitive defendant request and citizen inquiries and complaints; answer questions and provide service and information to the public regarding the policies and procedures of the court. Employees must maintain regular attendance. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
