Job Description

The mission of the International Institute of New England (IINE) is to create opportunities for refugees and immigrants to succeed through resettlement, education, career advancement and pathways to citizenship. One of the oldest and largest human services organizations for New Americans in the region, IINE serves more than 9,000 people each year in Boston and Lowell, Massachusetts, and Manchester, New Hampshire. Our programs include case management, youth and family services, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), employment and skills training, and immigration legal services.

Position Title: Bilingual Spanish/English Case Manager (Immigrant Family Support Coordinator)

  • Pay Rate: $32.04

Overview

The Bilingual Spanish/English Immigrant Support Coordinator is responsible for providing culturally and linguistically appropriate post release services to unaccompanied children program.

Responsibilities

  • Develop individualized case plans for unaccompanied children, with particular attention to culture, language, and special circumstances.

  • Provide information, education, referrals, outreach, advocacy, and support to ensure that each child receives the services they require.

  • Assess the safety and appropriateness of the home placement on an ongoing basis using child welfare principles and social work best practices.

  • Conduct calls, interviews, and home visits, using child welfare principles and social work best practices.

  • Build a network of local pro bono legal resources and service providers including medical, educational, mental health, and trafficking victims assistance programs

  • Enroll unaccompanied children in services, facilitate access and remove barriers to those services, and track each child's progress via an online database.

  • Maintain accurate and complete case files by updating database regularly, submitting reports, and managing physical case files.

  • Participate in regular training and communication sessions with on-site supervisor and off-site case work supervisor.

  • Perform all other duties assigned by supervisor.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Fluency in Spanish and English is required; proficiency in additional languages a plus.

  • Extensive knowledge of the local resources available to immigrant communities.

  • Excellent organizational, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, and ability to prioritize duties in a fast-paced environment.

  • Must have a valid driver's license, insurance, a clean driving record, and personal transportation; position requires frequent local and long distance travel with limited notice.

  • Dedication to the human rights of refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers and displaced people

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (BSW) or BA in education, counseling, psychology, sociology, or other behavioral health equivalent (Required)

  • Minimum of two years' experience in case management, preferably working with, serving, and advocating on behalf of immigrant children and families (Required)

  • Demonstrated experience implementing child welfare programs and policies, evaluating child placements, conducting home study assessments, and ensuring family preservation is preferred.

Work Environment Conditions

  • Occasional travel to the Boston Office (2x/mo) or for all staff events.

  • Exposure to bright, overhead office lighting, use of office technology such as laptops, printers, mail machines, and other in-office equipment.

  • Frequent Driving to/from client homes'May require long distance travel

  • Frequent interruptions from employees and clients- must have ability to multi-task.

Physical Demands

  • Occasional lifting, pushing, and pulling materials (boxes, equipment) of 50 pounds or more.

  • Continuous sitting (or standing) at a desk for long periods of time.

Covid-19 Policy

IINE does not require applicants for most positions to show proof of Covid-19. Some federal contracts, however, require IINE staff to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination, and some immigration status adjustments, such as a Green Card, require proof of Covid-19 vaccination as well. Consequently, for some positions, IINE staff may be required to show proof of vaccination, and in others, IINE staff will be supporting clients who are required by law to have proof of vaccination in order to adjust their status in the United States.
