Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Litigation Legal Assistant with at least 5 years of recent litigation experience to join our Portland office and support teams in both California and Oregon. California and Oregon litigation experience, including state and federal filing experience, is essential. Employment litigation experience preferred. This is a full-time hybrid position, offering flexibility to work both remotely and in the office.

The Requirements:

As a Litigation Legal Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting our attorneys by providing comprehensive administrative and legal assistance. Your attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to thrive under pressure will be essential to your success in this role. You will work closely with our team, contribute to the overall operation of the practice, and have the opportunity to mentor less-experienced colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of legal assistant duties to support attorneys in litigation matters across both California and Oregon jurisdictions.
  • Draft and prepare legal documents including pleadings, briefs, orders, and subpoenas, from dictation, written instructions, and other materials.
  • Manage calendars, schedule hearings, motions, meetings, mediations, and arbitrations, ensuring timely notifications to all involved parties.
  • Proofread and edit documents for accuracy in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and format.
  • Review and file legal documents in compliance with court requirements for both state and federal courts (electronic and manual filing).
  • Assist with general case management and document organization to ensure smooth operation of litigation processes.
  • Participate in team collaboration, offering guidance and mentorship to junior staff as needed.
  • Occasional overtime may be required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years’ recent litigation experience, preferably employment litigation, with specific experience in California and Oregon litigation.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize effectively, and maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong team player who enjoys mentoring and sharing knowledge.
  • Proficient in using legal software and technology for document management and filing.

 The Location:

This is a hybrid position. When working onsite in our physical office, this position will work out of our offices located in a neighborhood with a vibrant, energetic streetscape. Located in the 11W building (1140 SW Washington Street) in downtown Portland, our offices reside in a recently completed 25-story mixed-use tower with curated ground-floor retail and underground parking. The property is a member of the West End Security District, which provides the neighborhood with highly effective private security and cleaning services.
