This role will be based in our Dallas office, on a hybrid basis (4 days in office). Regular in-office presence is required for day-to-day operations, as well as for team meetings, training opportunities, and relationship building. This role reports to the Business Director.

Position Summary

The Franchise Paralegal will work closely with attorneys in the Franchise & Distribution practice group to manage a wide variety of legal matters, including state franchise registrations and renewals, state comment letters, maintaining accurate and up-to-date document management systems, and other related regulatory compliance matters.  The ideal candidate will have strong project management skills, the ability to work independently, and experience with state franchise registrations and renewals. 

Demonstrates professionalism, attention to detail, and ability to handle multiple priorities and work in an organized, efficient manner at any given time. Supports the department with general administrative duties and special projects.  Candidate should also be flexible to work overtime as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation, filing, and maintenance of Franchise Disclosure Documents (FDDs) in compliance with state and federal laws.
  • Prepare and track state franchise registrations and renewals across multiple jurisdictions, including maintaining accurate and up-to-date document management systems.
  • Monitor deadlines and ensure timely submission of required filings and renewals.
  • Coordinate and communicate with clients and regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct legal research and summarize applicable franchise and distribution laws, regulations, and precedents.
  • Draft and review franchise agreements, amendments, and related correspondence under attorney supervision.
  • Support attorneys with due diligence in connection with the acquisition and sale of franchise companies.
  • Perform general administrative tasks related to legal support, such as calendar management and file organization.
  • Maintains timely and accurate timekeeping records
  • Assists with other department activities as needed, and performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate professionally and interact effectively with all levels of personnel, including management staff and support staff
  • Ability to be a proactive self-starter who understands the details within a much larger context
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, reliability and ability to learn new technology quickly
  • Excellent client service skills and ability to work on multiple matters simultaneously in an organized manner and under minimal supervision
  • Flexibility and able to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands
  • Position also requires the ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines

Education & Prior Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Certificate in Paralegal studies from an accredited institution preferred; equivalent experience considered
  • Certified Paralegal a plus
  • Minimum of 5 years of franchise paralegal experience within a law firm with demonstrated knowledge of complex issues within franchise practice area

Technology

  • Proficiency with Windows-based software and Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook, as well as document management and other office technologies required.
  • Exceptional computer skills with the ability to learn new software applications quickly
