Job Description

Gerber Ciano Kelly Brady LLP is seeking an experienced litigation paralegal for immediate full-time employment in its Buffalo, New York office. The candidate should have a minimum of three (3) years of experience, although exceptional candidates with less experience will be considered. The ideal candidate will possess a strong legal background, with specific expertise in New York Civil Practice Law and Rules (CPLR), handling complex litigation support tasks, superior organizational skills, and a proactive approach to managing attorney schedules and case progress. This individual will demonstrate professionalism in client interactions, uphold strict confidentiality, and show agility in multitasking across high-volume, deadline-driven projects. A team-oriented mindset, coupled with the ability to work independently, will be key to succeeding in this role.

This position requires a high level of motivation, flexibility, initiative, and the ability to follow through on ongoing projects. The ideal candidate should demonstrate sound judgment in various situations, with strong, professional communication skills. They should be friendly and outgoing, capable of working both independently and as a team player. While the candidate will work primarily with lawyers in the firm’s Buffalo location, they will also interact and collaborate on matters across Gerber Ciano Kelly Brady LLP’s broader footprint.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drafting pleadings, discovery demands/responses, motions, subpoenas, settlement documents, etc.

  • Performing legal and factual research

  • Processing authorizations and compiling medical records

  • Analyzing medical records and drafting summaries and chronologies

  • Communicating with courts, clients, experts, opposing counsel, and counsel for co-defendants as needed

  • Managing and updating case activity to assist attorneys with case monitoring and client reporting

  • Assisting with file preparation for mediation, arbitration, and trial

  • Preparing cases from inception to trial

  • Locating and communicating with witnesses

  • Accurately recording and maintaining billable hours

  • Maintaining the law library

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Minimum of three years of relevant work experience in the legal field

  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, with the ability to learn new programs and systems

  • Knowledge of State and Federal Court rules and e-filing procedures

  • Legal research (Lexis, Westlaw) proficiency preferred

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to multitask, with attention to detail, excellent communication, and organizational skills

  • The ability to anticipate schedules and deadlines and move projects forward

  • Exemplary planning and time management skills

  • Ability to work under deadlines with flexibility in work schedule to meet unforeseen demands

Salary and Benefits:

Salary is commensurate with experience and skill set. The position offers benefits, including health, life, short-term and long-term disability, as well as 401(k), flexible work, and paid time off.

For New York City Applicants:
Salary range: $25.00 - $40.00/hr. ($52,000 - $83,200), plus eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus. The anticipated salary range applies to candidates working in New York City. The salary offered to a successful candidate will depend on their skills, experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law. Gerber Ciano Kelly Brady LLP is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions located in other states.
