POSITION PURPOSE

The Legal Department is currently seeking a qualified, motivated, and detail-oriented legal assistant/paralegal to assist the Bank's in-house attorneys.  The Legal Assistant is responsible for processing a variety of legal requests related to customer accounts that are received by the Bank such as receiverships, subpoenas, court orders, legal research requests, powers of attorney, guardianships, estates and releasing of deceased account holder funds to an estate or beneficiary. The Legal Assistant may also assist with demands, complaints, claims and litigation matters. This position requires discretion and independent judgment in matters of consequence to the Bank and its clients.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

  • Provide daily legal support to banking centers in Texas and Oklahoma.
  • Review incoming legal documents including guardianship, powers of attorney, trust, probate and estate matters to ensure requests and orders are processed in accordance with Bank and legal requirements.
  • Process court appointed receivership orders and search and seizure warrants, including communication with outside counsel.
  • Accept service of process.
  • Answer routine inquiries over the phone from a variety of internal and external parties including customers, branches, agencies, and attorneys.
  • Review legal documentation provided and references any relevant laws and regulations.
  • Research and process account holds and releases, payments, invoices, and processing fees as appropriate.
  • Prepare letters to customers or other parties.
  • Research and analyze statutes, case law and legal articles.
  • Provide administrative support to General Counsel and Legal Department attorneys.
  • Work with internal and external counsel with respect to demands, complaints, claims and litigation;
  • Review and advise on legal questions concerning subpoenas;
  • Document review for written discovery and subpoena production;
  • Assist with the factual development and analysis of demands, complaints, claims and litigation;
  • Interact with associates and potential witnesses for the purpose of fact-gathering and case development;
  • Draft and track litigation hold notices;
  • Assist with internal reporting of pending litigation matters; and
  • Performs tasks related to management of logistics and event planning for various Executive/Board meetings and events.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:            
High school diploma or GED required. 

Experience Required:               
2 or more years of legal documentation processing or banking experience; or a combination of directly related education and experience.
